
Magdalena Kress
Magda Kress is a Brooklyn-based queer bassist and composer. She can frequently be found playing double bass and/or electric bass in musical theatre productions and cabaret bands all over NYC. She especially loves collaborating with theatre-makers and performing new, experimental, and immersive works. Recent favorites include Folk Wandering (Pipeline Theatre Company, Off-Broadway at A.R.T./New York Theatres), The Cave: a Folk Opera (Daughters Collective, at Access Theater), and The Tattooed Lady (workshop at New Dramatists). She regularly plays with Blake Allen’s award-winning An Evening with… Series at Green Room 42 and rising pop/rock artists Fab the Duo.
She received her master’s degree in Music Composition from Bowling Green State University. Her compositions have been programmed on several concerts and festivals, including Electronic Music Midwest (Lewis University), Vox Novus’ Circuit Bridges Series (Gallery MC) and Fifteen Minutes of Fame Series (Jan Hus Church, with cellist Craig Hultgren), and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra Student Composer Reading Session (Bowling Green State University). She recently provided additional orchestrations for Freefall Frostbite by David Oberst/Michael Fixel (Off-Broadway at Theatre 80 St. Marks, in concert at Feinstein’s/54 Below).
